Brandhorst Collection – New Art Museum in Munich
April 27, 2008
End of summer/fall this year a new art museum in Munich will open its doors. It is the Brandhorst museum collection that will contain more than 700 artworks of the most renown artists of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Sigmar Polke, Bruce Nauman, Mike Kelley and many more. One whole floor will be dedicated to the Twombly collection of nearly 50 artworks and will be thus the second largest collection outside of the US.
The architects Louisa Hutton and Prof. Matthias Sauerbruch designed the building which – in my opinion – fully responds to the main art directions of the 20th century. Just like the colour fields of the Mira shopping center I was talking about in my last post this also appeals to the eye with a delicious colour combination that is elegant, graceful and simple at the same time.
Enjoying the marvellous weather and cycling through the heart of the city I had to stop near the construction site of the new museum and take some images of this new member of the Kunstareal of the city of Munich.
I am truly looking forward to the opening and a brand new source for inspiration…
